The move expands Adobe’s AI offerings beyond its proprietary models, allowing users to generate images using OpenAI’s GPT image generation, Google Imagen 3, Google Veo 2, and Flux 1.1 Pro.

Adobe also introduced a new version of its own Firefly image model and plans to add models from partners including Pika, Ideogram, fal.ai, Luma, and Runway in the coming months.

Firefly users can now generate content with third-party models and seamlessly transfer it into Adobe’s other applications, such as Photoshop, using a few taps or clicks.

The same credit system used for Adobe’s AI models will apply to third-party models, though Adobe has not disclosed how revenue will be shared with external providers.

Ely Greenfield, Adobe’s chief technology officer for digital media, said some customers prefer Firefly’s proprietary models for production due to commercial safety, while others are open to experimenting with different models during the ideation phase.

Adobe shares rose 1.88% in midday trading following the announcement.
