Adobe Introduces AI Video Tool to Rival OpenAI
Adobe has unveiled its latest innovation in the form of an artificial intelligence tool designed to create video clips. The tool, named Firefly Video Model, is now available to the public. Unlike its competitors, Adobe's focus is on catering to the needs of film and television studios that use Premiere Pro, their primary video editing software.

The Firefly Video Model is set to compete with existing models like Sora from OpenAI and startup Runway, which also offer video-generation services. Meta Platforms, the parent company of Facebook, is also in the race with its own video-generation AI model, although no release date has been announced yet.
One of the key features of Adobe's tool is its ability to enhance existing shots by generating clips that either fix or expand upon them. The service will produce five-second clips at 1080p resolution, with a pricing structure that allows users to generate 20 clips for $9.99 per month or 70 clips for $29.99.
While OpenAI offers longer clips of up to 20 seconds in their service, Adobe executives argue that most individual clips in productions are typically only three seconds long. Adobe is also working on a "Premium" pricing plan tailored for studios and high-volume video users, with details set to be revealed later this year.
Alexandru Costin, Adobe's vice president of generative AI, highlighted the company's commitment to quality over quantity. He stated, "We actually think that great motion, great structure, great definition scheme, making the actual clip look like it was film, is more important than making a longer clip that's unusable."
