This move comes as Chinese tech behemoths focus on monetising AI technology. The service includes AI-powered search, a virtual assistant, and automated reply functions, according to a post on DingTalk's public WeChat account. Notably, the search feature makes use of advanced language models to increase productivity by analysing and summarising massive amounts of data on the platform.

Users can subscribe to DingTalk 365 for an annual fee of 339 yuan (US$56), with an introductory offer currently available for 169 yuan. Existing users must update their app to version 7.6.16 or higher to use the new service. This initiative by DingTalk is consistent with the trend of Chinese tech companies introducing commercial GenAI products and services in response to global AI advancements triggered by Microsoft-backed OpenAI's ChatGPT release.

GenAI technology, which includes algorithms for creating various types of content, is expected to generate up to US$2 trillion in annual economic benefits for China. DingTalk 365's AI search feature enables users to prompt queries such as "find the project delivery report file" or "find tasks that involve me next week" to receive instant responses, streamlining information retrieval and work planning.

DingTalk 365 includes a virtual online conference assistant for meeting minute summaries, online document editing, and tracking specific projects and updates. Baidu, a Chinese tech giant, was among the first to commercialise its GenAI service, offering the intelligent chatbot Ernie Bot, now Wenxiaoyan, on a freemium basis. Similarly, Kuaishou Technology, Zhipu AI, and Shengshu AI offer free video-creation tools in China.

According to Statista, the GenAI market in China is expected to reach US$3.15 billion this year, with a projected growth rate to US$31.12 billion in 2030.
