Speaking at an AMD conference for AI personal computers in Beijing on Tuesday, Su said the company's chips were compatible with DeepSeek’s AI models and Alibaba’s Qwen series. She noted that this compatibility had helped the Chinese companies accelerate their technological advancements.

Su highlighted AMD’s commitment to working with the open-source community and fostering a developer-friendly AI ecosystem. She was joined at the event by representatives from Lenovo Group, Asus, and Microsoft.

AMD has been promoting its support for DeepSeek’s low-cost, high-performance AI models, which have gained attention in Silicon Valley and Wall Street. The company has also provided instructions for running DeepSeek’s V3 and R1 open-source models on its Instinct graphics processing units.

AMD is considered the main competitor to Nvidia in the AI chip market. While DeepSeek’s efficient models initially raised concerns about a potential drop in AI chip demand, Chinese companies have continued to invest in processors to support AI development and cloud computing.

On Monday, Su visited Lenovo’s Beijing headquarters, where the company announced that its AMD-powered AI large-model training server, the Wentian WA7785a G3, could process 6,708 tokens per second when running DeepSeek’s 71-billion-parameter model on a single server.

AMD also introduced new products on Tuesday, including the Ryzen 9 9950X3D processor for desktops and the Ryzen 9000HX series processors for gaming laptops.

The company said its Chinese AI Application Innovation Alliance, launched in March 2024, had grown to over 100 independent software vendor partners and was expected to reach 170 by the end of the year.

AMD reported USD 6.2 billion in revenue from mainland China and Hong Kong in 2023, accounting for 24% of its total sales.

Su’s visit to China is expected to last at least a week. She is scheduled to attend the China Development Forum on March 23 and 24 at the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse in Beijing. The event will bring together foreign CEOs as China seeks to attract international investment amid geopolitical tensions.

Chinese President Xi Jinping is expected to meet with a select group of foreign business executives following the forum.
