David McAfee, corporate vice president and general manager of Ryzen CPU and Radeon Graphics at AMD, introduced the new GPUs in a YouTube Premier alongside senior AMD executives, alongside another regional event that happened in Zhuhai, China, which was led by Jack Huynh, senior vice president of the Client and Graphics Group..

McAfee highlighted the Radeon RX 9000 series as a major advancement in graphics performance, designed to meet the demands of modern gaming while supporting future innovations. The GPUs integrate AI-powered features, next-generation display support, and competitive pricing.

The Radeon RX 9000 series delivers groundbreaking performance through its unified RDNA 4 Compute Units with up to 64 compute units offering 40% higher gaming performance than RDNA 3, third-generation raytracing technology with twice the previous throughput, second-generation AI accelerators with 8x INT8 throughput for enhanced AI processing, and the FidelityFX Super Resolution 4 (FSR 4) machine learning-powered upscaling for improved frame rates across 30+ launch titles. The new Radiance Display Engine also supports DisplayPort 2.1a and HDMI 2.1b for resolutions up to 8K at 144Hz with 12-bit HDR.

AMD claims that the Radeon RX 9070 XT and RX 9070 offer significant performance improvements over the previous generation. The RX 9070 delivers over 20% more performance on average at 1440p compared to the RX 7900 GRE, while the RX 9070 XT extends that lead to over 40%.

The new Radeon RX 9000 series lineup features two initial models: the high-performance Radeon RX 9070 XT priced at US$599, equipped with 16GB GDDR6 memory and the more efficient Radeon RX 9070 at US$549, featuring 16GB GDDR6 memory. Both graphics cards will be available from multiple board partners including Acer, ASUS, Gigabyte and PowerColor, with retail availability beginning March 6, 2025.
