AMD Unveils Next-Generation AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D Processor
AMD’s is redefining the capabilities of a gaming processor with its latest Ryzen release.
The silicon giant recently unveiled new desktop computing products, highlighted by the Ryzen 7 9800X3D Desktop processor, based on the "Zen 5" architecture and utilising second-generation AMD 3D V-Cache technology.
The Ryzen 7 9800X3D is being touted as the “ultimate solution” for the PC gamers, featuring eight high-performance “Zen 5” processor cores and 16 processing threads to handle both gaming and productivity tasks. It has a 4.7 GHz base clock speed combined with a 5.2 GHz max boost clock, representing the highest clock speeds ever on an X3D chiplet. In addition, the chip features a 120W TDP with 104MB of total cache, giving the processor enough power it needs to perform.
What’s more, the 9800X3D features a new on-chip memory solution, re-engineered with AMD’s second-generation 3D V-Cache technology. The 64MB cache memory has also been relocated below the processor, which puts the core complex die (CCD) closer to the cooling solution to help keep the “Zen 5” cores cooler. This change results in higher clock rates and up to an average of 8% improved gaming performance compared to the previous generation and up to 20% faster than the competition.
The 9800X3D is also the first X3D processor to be fully unlocked, enabling enthusiasts and gamers alike to push its performance to new limits.
With these internals, the 9800X3D can also deliver significant performance gains in applications outside of gaming. While it doesn’t have a dedicated NPU like Intel’s Arrow Lake processors, it likely will not have any trouble running AI tasks that rely on CPU and GPU performance.
"We continue to push the boundaries of performance and innovation in desktop computing, delivering solutions that exceed the needs of gamers and creators alike," said Jack Huynh, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Computing and Graphics at AMD.
AMD’s Ryzen 7 9800X3D is out now, retailing for US$479.
