Anthropic Unveils AI to Automate Mouse Clicks for Coders
Anthropic introduces AI feature for automating computer tasks. Three versions of AI models offered at different price points. Focus on enhancing mid-tier and entry-level models.
The latest feature enables the AI to autonomously execute complex actions, reducing the need for manual input.
Jared Kaplan, Chief Science Officer at Anthropic, explained, The new 'computer use' feature instructs the AI on mouse movements, clicks, and typing to accomplish intricate tasks. This innovation marks a significant step towards AI agents that can independently perform multi-step functions, surpassing the capabilities of traditional chatbots.
The showcased use cases include coding a basic website and orchestrating various applications like Google Search and Apple Maps for planning activities. Anthropic offers three versions of its AI models, with varying performance levels and pricing options. The recent updates focus on enhancing the mid-tier model, Sonnet, and the entry-level model, Haiku.
According to Kaplan, the latest Haiku model can now generate computer code almost as effectively as the previous Sonnet version. CEO Dario Amodei revealed plans to upgrade the most advanced model, Opus, by the year-end. The 'computer use' feature is currently exclusive to the new Sonnet version of the Claude AI series, with built-in safeguards against misuse.
Mike Krieger, co-founder of Instagram and current Chief Product Officer at Anthropic, emphasised the company's interest in gathering feedback from business users to refine the feature. Additionally, Anthropic's research team is exploring ways to make this functionality accessible to consumers, a vision Krieger personally supports.
Krieger shared his enthusiasm, stating, "I was booking flights. I really just want this to be completely automated." In a similar vein, Microsoft recently introduced a tool for clients to create custom agents capable of handling inquiries, identifying leads, and managing inventory.
