Apple is reportedly working on lightweight augmented reality glasses, aiming to outpace Meta’s Ray-Ban smart specs, according to a new report.

The company is developing new versions of its Apple Vision Pro headset, including a lighter and more affordable model, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reported in his Power On newsletter.
These developments are described as stepping stones toward Apple Chief Executive Officer Tim Cook’s long-term goal: creating true augmented reality glasses that overlay digital content onto real-world views.
Gurman stated that Cook has made this project a top priority, focusing heavily on product development to ensure Apple leads the market before Meta.
While the technology is still years away, Meta’s success with its Ray-Ban smart glasses has reportedly influenced Apple’s direction.
Meta’s current Ray-Ban models do not offer augmented reality but include features such as music playback, photo capture, and AI-powered object recognition.
Apple is said to be exploring similar interim solutions, including AI-enabled cameras for future versions of the Apple Watch and AirPods.
However, Apple’s strong emphasis on user privacy may limit the content-capturing capabilities of its devices compared to Meta’s.
There is no confirmed release timeline for Apple’s smart glasses.
