Apple to Introduce Satellite Communications to Smartwatch in 2025
Apple plans to introduce satellite connectivity to its smartwatch in 2025. The feature will be available in the upcoming Apple Watch Ultra, enabling message sending without a cellular or internet connection. Apple is also working on incorporating a blood-pressure monitoring feature in the smartwatch, expected to launch in 2025.
The upcoming feature is anticipated to debut in the next iteration of Apple's smartwatch, the Apple Watch Ultra, enabling users to send messages even without a cellular or internet connection, according to sources familiar with the development.
This move follows Apple's recent venture into satellite communication with its iPhones in 2022, marked by a substantial US$1.5 billion investment in satellite provider Globalstar to enhance iPhone communication services.
In addition to satellite connectivity, Apple is also intensifying efforts to introduce a blood-pressure monitoring feature to the smartwatch, expected to be rolled out in 2025, as per the report.
Apple's focus on health-related functionalities is evident in its recent product launches. In September, the company unveiled a new smartwatch capable of detecting long-term health issues like sleep apnea and providing emergency responses.
Despite these advancements, Apple has not yet responded to requests for comments from Reuters regarding these developments.
