Apple to Invest US$250 Million in Singapore Expansion, Paving the Way for a New Chapter in the City-State

Apple plans to invest US$250 million in expanding its Ang Mo Kio campus in Singapore. The expansion aims to foster collaboration among Apple's growing teams and create new roles in artificial intelligence and other key functions. Apple has been carbon-neutral for its corporate operations since 2020 and runs all of its facilities on 100% renewable energy.

Tech giant Apple has announced its plans to invest over S$340 million (US$250 million) in expanding its Ang Mo Kio campus in Singapore. The company will upgrade two newly acquired buildings adjacent to its existing offices, creating three unique spaces to foster collaboration among its growing teams. Construction is set to commence this year, marking a significant milestone in Apple's history in Singapore.

Singapore serves as a central operations center for Apple in the region, housing critical roles in software, hardware, services, and support. The expansion will provide space for growth and new roles in artificial intelligence and other key functions, further solidifying Apple's commitment to job creation and community engagement.

Since its establishment in 1981 with just 72 employees, Apple has experienced remarkable growth in Singapore. The company now boasts a team of over 3,600 individuals and supports more than 60,000 jobs through direct employment, its supply chain, and the thriving iOS app economy. With three Apple Store locations in Singapore, the company has become an integral part of the local community.

Over the past decade, Apple has continuously upgraded its facilities and labs, including a 50% expansion of its hardware technologies center since 2019. Apple CEO Tim Cook expressed his admiration for Singapore, calling it a "one-of-a-kind place" and emphasising the strong connection the company has built with the local community of creators, learners, and dreamers. The expanded campus will enable Apple to write a new chapter in its history in Singapore, continuing to enrich the lives of its customers through innovation.

In line with its commitment to sustainability, Apple's expanded campus will operate entirely on renewable energy. The company has been carbon-neutral for its corporate operations since 2020 and has been running all of its facilities on 100% renewable energy since 2018. This investment in renewable energy further demonstrates Apple's dedication to reducing its environmental impact.

In addition to the Singapore expansion, Apple's CEO, Tim Cook, announced the company's interest in exploring the possibility of building a manufacturing facility in Indonesia. Following a meeting with Indonesian President Joko Widodo, Apple aims to expand its presence in the country, where it has been setting up app developer academies since 2018. While Apple currently does not have manufacturing facilities in Indonesia, this potential venture highlights the company's commitment to expanding its global footprint.

Apple's investment in Singapore and its interest in exploring opportunities in Indonesia underscore its continued growth and commitment to innovation. With its expanded campus and focus on renewable energy, Apple is poised to make a lasting impact in Singapore and beyond.
