Updated: Sep 21, 2023
Apple introduces the powerful pro camera system-equipped iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, aiming to provide content producers more control and creative alternatives when it comes to photography and videography.
By seamlessly merging hardware and software, the camera systems of these new iPhones were developed to replicate seven popular professional lenses, like as 24mm, 28mm, and 35mm. The iPhone 15 Pro also features a 3x telephoto camera, while the iPhone 15 Pro Max takes it a step further with the longest optical zoom ever seen on an iPhone - 5x at 120mm, which is great for capturing close-ups, wildlife photos, and action shots from a distance. The telephoto camera on the Pro Max model also incorporates an innovative 'tetraprism' design with optical image stabilisation and an autofocus 3D sensor-shift module, making it Apple's most advanced stabilsation system to date.
The 48MP main camera supports 48MP HEIF photos, which give 4x greater resolution, in addition to ProRaw shooting. On the video front, it can record in Log, HDR with dolby vision of up to 4k at 60fp and also allows ProRes 4K at 60 fps video to be directly recorded to external storage, providing longer recording possibilities and more flexibility on set. The iPhone 15 Pro is the first smartphone in the world to use ACES, the Academy Colour Encoding System, a universal standard for colour workflows.
This advanced computational photography and videography are made possible by the new A17 Pro chip, the first 3-nanometer chip on a consumer mobile phone. The new chip improves every aspect of the processor, including the largest GPU redesign in Apple history. The Neural Engine is now up to 2x quicker, powering features like autocorrect and Personal Voice in iOS 17, while the new CPU is up to 10% faster thanks to microarchitectural and design enhancements. With a revolutionary 6-core design that boosts peak performance and energy efficiency, the pro-class GPU is up to 20% quicker and opens completely new experiences. The iPhone 15 Pro now offers smoother graphics, more immersive AR applications, and gaming experiences thanks to hardware-accelerated ray tracing, which is 4x quicker than software-based ray tracing.
The new Apple chip also comes with a specialised AV1 decoder, allowing for more effective, high-quality video streaming experiences. Additionally, a new USB controller makes it possible for iPhone to handle USB 3 speeds for the first time, enabling substantially faster transfer rates as well as video output up to 4K at 60 fps HDR. This is especially useful for professional photography and videography team that needs to monitor high quality live output to to keep the frame in focus and make sure they get the best take possible.
Users can now capture portrait photos without first switching to Portrait mode. The new iPhones automatically record depth information when a person, dog, or cat is in the frame or when the user taps to focus, allowing creators more room to manipulate their photos.
The iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, which come in 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch display, have a sturdy and lightweight titanium construction, a first for iPhone. The titanium frame is built from 100% recycled aluminium and aids in thermal dissipation. It also comes with Ceramic Shield on the front that protects the Super Retina XDR display.
iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max will be available in black titanium, white titanium, blue titanium, and natural titanium finishes. iPhone 15 Pro starts at S$1,649 available in 128GB, 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB storage capacities. iPhone 15 Pro Max starts at S$1,999 available in 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB storage capacities.
