Apple is expected to announce Google Gemini as a new partner for its Apple Intelligence platform in the coming weeks, according to a report.

Apple Intelligence, introduced last fall for the iPhone 16 series, iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, current Macs and most iPads, performs many tasks on-device. When additional support is needed, it currently offers users the option to consult ChatGPT.
According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, a deal with Google to integrate Gemini could be finalised and announced as early as Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), which begins at 10 a.m. Pacific on Monday, June 9.
Although Apple previously stated at WWDC in last June that Gemini would eventually be included, the agreement has not yet been completed.
Gurman also suggested that other AI partners, such as Anthropic’s Claude or Perplexity, could be added in the future. However, he said Meta Platforms Inc.’s Llama is unlikely to be included in iOS.
It remains unclear whether users will need to choose a single large language model (LLM) to use or if they will be able to select one per query. Currently, Apple limits ChatGPT queries to 30 per day.
It is also unknown whether the addition of new partners would increase the total number of daily queries or apply the same limit to each partner.
Apple Intelligence uses Apple Private Compute to protect user data when queries are sent to ChatGPT. Despite this, Apple is aiming to increase the amount of processing done directly on devices.
Other companies, including Qualcomm, are also working to expand on-device AI capabilities. However, cloud support remains necessary for some tasks, and Apple Intelligence is not yet fully independent of external processing.
