ASUS GeForce RTX 4070 Ti Super & 4080 Super Review: It's Time To Upgrade.

Updated: Apr 17

ASUS has a rich history of delivering top-notch graphics cards, and their latest additions to the GeForce RTX 40-series, the RTX 4070 Ti Super and RTX 4080 Super, aim to uphold that legacy. Both cards leverage NVIDIA's innovative Ada Lovelace architecture, enhancing ray tracing and artificial intelligence capabilities.

These cards feature PCIe Gen 4 interface, and include HDMI 2.1 and DisplayPort 1.4a outputs. Embracing the latest gaming technologies like DLSS 3, ray tracing, and NVIDIA Reflex, they cater to the demands of the modern gaming landscape. On the aesthetic front, ASUS has integrated RGB lighting on the card body and fans, controllable through the Armory Crate software.

In terms of design, the RTX 4070 Ti Super takes a more compact approach compared to the larger RTX 4080 Super, necessitating more space in your setup. The former boasts a simple and sleek black design with minimal RGB accents, while the latter, which I prefer, stands out with a unique combination of blue and red accents and an eye-catching RGB placement.

ASUS GeForce RTX 4070 Ti Super & 4080 Super Review

The RTX 4070 Ti Super is equipped with 7,680 CUDA cores and 12GB of GDDR6X memory, offering a substantial performance boost over its predecessors. ASUS claims up to 2.5x faster ray tracing and 3x faster AI rendering compared to the RTX 3070. The triple fan cooling solution and hefty heatsink maintain temperatures under control, with a TDP of 350W.

Meanwhile, with the RTX 4080 Super, you get a more potent GPU with 9,728 CUDA cores and 16GB of GDDR6X memory. This configuration, running at 21Gbps on a 256-bit bus, delivers up to 736GB/s of bandwidth. The RTX 4080 Super outperforms the RTX 4070 Ti Super by at least 50% in most games at 4K resolution, making it a powerhouse for content creation as well. Cooling is handled by a substantial three-slot triple fan design and a copper heatsink to dissipate the 450W TDP.

Moving beyond the technical specifications, let's explore the real-world performance of both cards in GPU-intensive games. Pairing both with an AMD Ryzen 7900X processor and 32GB of RAM, we pushed the graphical settings to the max at 4K resolution with HDR toggled on, output to ASUS's latest 49-inch 4K OLED HDR ultrawide monitor.

In Hogwarts Legacy, with graphics settings maxed out and intensive features enabled, the 4070 Ti Super maintained a smooth 65 fps. With the 4080 Super, the frame rates reached an impressive range of between 85-110 fps, showcasing a substantial performance leap over its more affordable stablemate.

In Forza Horizon 5, with extreme graphics settings and DLSS set to quality, both GPUs surpassed 140 fps. However, the 4080 Super demonstrated potential for even better performance, constrained only by the game's 144 fps limit.

In Cyberpunk 2077, with ray tracing pushed to the limit, the 4070 Ti Super delivered a playable 65 fps, while the 4080 Super reached around 80 fps. If you prefer higher frame rates over graphics quality, tweaking DLSS to ultra performance and enabling frame generation can yield remarkable results, with the 4070 Ti Super hitting 95 fps and the 4080 Super reaching an astonishing 120 fps.

Priced at US$949.99 and US$1199 respectively, it might be harder to justify upgrading from the base 4070 Ti or 4080 as you’ll only get modest performance gains. However, if you’re using much older cards, the extra investment that comes with the 4080 Super could be worth it, allowing you to enjoy 16GB of memory and a noticeable boost in performance.
