BeyonCa to Establish the First 'Made in Hong Kong' Car Brand with Smart Electric Vehicle

BeyonCa, a Chinese luxury EV startup, intends to locate its worldwide headquarters and develop a plant in Hong Kong. The company intends to establish a "Made in Hong Kong" brand and build an EV ecosystem that includes design, research, production, and marketing. BeyonCa, supported by Renault, intends to launch its first electric vehicle by the end of 2025.

The company intends to develop a foothold in the market by tapping into the Greater Bay Area's strong automotive supply chain and diverse international talent base. BeyonCa plans to set up a production line and four major research and marketing centers at the Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks (HKSTP)'s advanced manufacturing site in Tseung Kwan O.

Soh Weiming, founder and chairman of BeyonCa, stated that the company envisions building itself into a "Made in Hong Kong" brand while creating an EV ecosystem that encompasses design, innovation, production, and marketing. He stressed the significance of creating a brand that incorporates culture, art, history, and technology. The construction and staffing plans for the assembly factory are scheduled to be completed in the following months.

BeyonCa, sponsored by French automaker Renault, plans to create electric vehicles to compete with luxury brands like BMW and Mercedes-Benz. Dirk van Braeckel, BeyonCa's chief design officer, has 40 years of automotive design experience and is well-known for his work on Volkswagen models. The EV startup intends to produce its first production model, an electric vehicle, by the end of 2025.

The GT Opus 1 was BeyonCa's first prototype model, announced in October 2022. This model includes an AI-powered smart cockpit with real-time blood pressure monitoring and an online "cloud doctor" service. If the driver exhibits symptoms of cardiovascular illness, a stroke, or weariness, the automobile will automatically act.

Soh Weiming stressed that BeyonCa's priority is to produce high-quality cars and AI systems, rather than volume. The organisation intends to position itself strategically and establish a strong brand. The assembly line will be located in Hong Kong, but the stamping, body welding, and painting will take place in BeyonCa's mainland production facilities. The Hong Kong plant will produce both left- and right-hand drive variants.

BeyonCa will focus largely on the Chinese and European markets, which are important for premium EVs. Soh Weiming, the chairman and CEO of Renault's China operations, remarked that Hong Kong has an advantage over mainland cities since locally made automobiles are not subject to the punitive restrictions imposed on Chinese EV companies. Dongfeng Motor, a state-owned Chinese automaker, is among BeyonCa's investors.

In addition to its aspirations in Hong Kong, BeyonCa signed a preliminary investment agreement with Riyadh-based AI Faisaliah Group in October to explore EV development potential in the Middle East. The company wants to increase its presence and compete in the worldwide EV market.
