BMW 5 Series, Featuring First-Ever BMW i5 All-Electric Drive, Launches in Singapore
Updated: Dec 18, 2023
BMW's latest model generation proudly brings another all-electric drive option to Singapore.

The German automaker has launched in the country the BMW 5 Series, a new and dynamic model that features a suite of digital experiences and a high-performance i5 electric battery.
"The feeling of empowerment that the car exudes is addictive and inspiring at the same time," said Lars Nielsen, Managing Director of BMW Group Asia, describing the premium sedan. "This is an experience that our customers crave for and can expect every time they get behind the wheel."

The new model generation ships in Singapore with all-electric drive and a petrol engine with 48-volt mild hybrid technology. It's equipped with an i5 eDrive40 electric motor, which drives the rear wheels and generates a maximum output of 250 kW/340 hp and a maximum torque of up to 400 Nm, complete with Sport Boost or Launch Control function. The motor can also accelerate from zero to 100km/h in six seconds, with a top speed of 193 km/h.
The battery has a usable energy content of 81.2 kWh. BMW attributes its relatively long range to the latest version of adaptive recuperation and new heat pump solutions for heating and cooling the interior. The new Max Range function can also limit power and speed and deactivate comfort functions to further push the battery's range by up to 25%.
The i5 sedan features AC charging with an output of up to 11 kW. The battery can be charged with direct current with a power of up to 205 kW. The charge level, for instance, can be raised from 10% to 80% in around 30 minutes.

In Singapore, BMW's customers can opt for either a home or public charging package under the Shell Recharge banner. For home charging, customers receive a wall-mounted AC charger with complimentary installation service.
For public charging, on the other hand, customers receive a subscription package of 10,000 kWh over three years at Shell Recharge stations with no monthly cap for charging. This is equivalent to 50,000 km of driving range (assuming average energy consumption is at 20kWh/100km).
Inside, the BMW 5 Series digitises a lot of the key driving functions, enabling it to have a more streamlined and elegant cockpit with lesser buttons and controls than the previous generation. The highlight of this redesigned cockpit is the BMW Curved Display, a fully digital system that consists of a 12.3-inch Information Display and a 14.9-inch Control Display. The new display and control system also brings introduces "QuickSelect", a new option for drivers to access functions without having to navigate through submenus.

Even the steering wheel has been redesigned to accommodate a flattened lower section and haptic feedback on the control panels. The BMW Interaction Bar additionally features a touch-sensitive controls and a crystalline surface structure that extends across the entire width of the instrument panes.
Other key features include BMW Personal Assistant functions, up to six My Modes for different vehicle experiences and BMW Digital Key Plus support for iOS, Android and Apple Watch.

The BMW 5 Series and first-ever BMW i5 are now available for viewing at all authorised BMW dealers in Singapore. A total of 20 units of the BMW 520i and first-ever BMW i5 eDrive40 (10 units per variant) are available in Launch Edition guise for customers to purchase in Singapore.
