In a competitive market for AI-assisted video creation tools, Zhipu aims to captivate users with innovative offerings.

According to Zhipu, Ying can now produce 4K high-definition video clips of up to 10 seconds in length at an impressive 60 frames per second. The Beijing-based company is among China's elite group of "AI Tigers," or leading unicorns attempting to bridge the technological divide with the United States.

Ying was unveiled in July, shortly after OpenAI, a US-based generative AI startup, introduced its text-to-video model, Sora. Notably, OpenAI's services are unavailable in China, prompting a slew of Chinese tech behemoths and startups to launch AI-powered video creation platforms.

TikTok's parent company, ByteDance, has recently announced an update to its Jimeng AI video app. This update includes the second version of the Seaweed video model, which allows for faster generation of video clips with more detail. ByteDance is also improving its Doubao chatbot with a new video function that can convert text or images into realistic video clips, taking advantage of its exceptional semantic understanding capabilities.

Doubao, the most popular Chinese AI chatbot in October based on monthly active users, is set to strengthen its position in China's rapidly growing AI video services market. According to research firm LeadLeo, this market is expected to grow to 9.3 billion yuan (approximately US$1.3 billion) by 2026.

Despite perceptions that Chinese companies lag behind top US players in generative AI, particularly text-to-video capabilities, mainland firms are determined to catch up. For example, Kuaishou Technologies, a short-video giant, recently made its Kling video-generation tool available on Android and iOS apps, broadening its reach beyond its official website.

This strategic move is expected to put Kling in the hands of a larger segment of the world's mobile internet population. Key players in China's AI sector, such as Zhipu and ByteDance, have already launched chatbots or dedicated apps with AI-powered video creation capabilities.
