Dell Unveils Alienware Aurora R16 Desktop With Sleeker Design, Improved Airflow
Updated: Dec 18, 2023
Need to free up more space on your gaming desk? Dell's latest gaming rig has you covered.
The computer giant today launched the Alienware Aurora R16, a flagship gaming desktop that features a sleeker design over its predecessor while maintaining the elite-level performance that gamers have come to expect from the brand.
The R16 marks the debut of the streamlined Legend 3 design language, characterised by a space-saving and modern-looking tower chassis. Up to 40% of the total volume of the R15 has been shaved off, while internal volume
remains unchanged at 25.2L.
In addition, airflow has been optimised, with the new desktop being up to 20% quieter than its predecessor. CPU and GPU temperatures are also lower by 10% and 6%, respectively.
Dell credits the oval lighting loop on the left side of the chassis for the design and airflow improvements. The loop traces the perimeter of the primary vent which provides a larger air intake compared to the R15. That then allows for more efficient airflow, while the loop lighting pays homage to Alienware's design heritage.
The loop is also the visual centre of the the desktop, with it being intended to be viewed from its side through the clear side panel. Dell touts that the fresh perspective helped drive simplicity throughout the rest of the design, shrink the overall volume and channel more airflow through the front intake. These changes, along with larger side and top vents and updates to the internal cable management, are what helped create a quieter and cooler desktop.
Internally, the R16 can house Nvidia GeForce RTX 40 Series GPUs and 12th or 13th Gen Intel Core desktop processors. It has Wi-Fi 6 or 6E connectivity and 2.5Gbps Ethernet for both wired and wireless connections. For memory, meanwhile, it supports up to 64GB of 5200 MT/s DDR5 Memory or 32GB of 5600 MT/s DDR5 Memory and up to 8TB of SSD storage.
Dell notes it'll be focusing on bringing the most popular configurations to market first, then expanding from there.
The R16 is also the first Alienware desktop to feature the new Alienware Command Centre, a centralised dashboard that allows gamers to quickly access settings like game-specific profiles and themes, lighting, macros and audio, among others. Gamers can select from over 16.7 million colours across three lighting zones, which they can extend and save across their Alienware ecosystem.
The R16 is available from today for the starting price of S$3,199.
