Renowned entrepreneur and Tesla CEO, Elon Musk, is expected to be one of the keynote speakers at the opening ceremony of the World AI Conference (WAIC) in Shanghai. The agenda for the event, which was released in advance, confirmed Musk's participation. However, it remains unclear whether he will appear in person or deliver his speech via video.

While the WAIC organisers have not provided any official statement regarding Musk's attendance, sources familiar with the matter suggest that he is unlikely to be present in person. The conference is set to feature other prominent figures, including Chinese Premier Li Qiang, who is also expected to deliver a speech.

Musk's connection with China has been growing stronger in recent years. In April, he met with Premier Li Qiang during his visit to Beijing. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the rollout of Tesla's Full Self-Driving (FSD) software and data-transfer permissions. Musk's presence at the conference further solidifies his commitment to the Chinese market and his interest in advancing artificial intelligence.

This won't be Musk's first involvement with the World AI Conference. In the past, he has provided video messages for the event, and in 2019, he made a personal appearance. His speech at this year's conference holds significant anticipation, as it coincides with the European Union's expected imposition of preliminary tariffs on Chinese electric vehicle imports.

Tesla, being the largest exporter of electric vehicles from China to Europe, has requested a separate duty rate calculation from the Commission. Currently, the company faces a 21% additional tariff as part of the group of companies under investigation.
