The International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE), the Hollywood workers' union, has signed a three-year agreement with major companies. In a momentous breakthrough for the Hollywood film and television business, the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE), a union that represents Hollywood workers, has negotiated a tentative three-year agreement with major studios. The agreement includes agreed-upon wage increases as well as provisions addressing the industry's usage of artificial intelligence (AI).

The IATSE represents a variety of industry specialists, including as lighting technicians and costume designers. The union will now seek to ratify the agreement with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP), which represents major companies such as Disney and Netflix.

Over the three-year period, the agreement calls for scale-rate increases of 7%, 4%, and 3.5%, respectively. This will increase the incomes of Hollywood workers while also addressing concerns about fair compensation.

One of the most important features of the agreement is the inclusion of language that assures no employee is asked to supply AI prompts in a way that would result in the displacement of any covered employee. This provision intends to shield workers from future job losses as AI becomes more widely used in the business.

This agreement follows a similar one made in late 2023 between the SAG-AFTRA actors' union and the studios. That pact reportedly included pay rises and streaming incentives totaling more than $1 billion over three years, as well as discussions about the use of AI in filmmaking.
