This achievement comes shortly before Apple's highly anticipated unveiling of the new iPhone 16 series.

The Mate XT, which features a unique Z-shaped tri-fold design, will be unveiled at a special launch event on Tuesday, according to Huawei's WeChat social media platform. Customers who pre-ordered will be given instructions on how to purchase the phone on the day of the event, with no need for an upfront payment.

This impressive number of pre-orders demonstrates Huawei's resilience in the face of US sanctions and strengthens its position as a formidable competitor to Apple. Apple reduced prices earlier this year to maintain its market share, despite stiff competition from Huawei's innovative offerings.

Huawei's launch event comes hot on the heels of Apple's September 9 event, when the tech titan is expected to unveil its iPhone 16 series, focussing on the incorporation of advanced artificial intelligence capabilities into its flagship devices.

According to IDC, a leading consultancy, Huawei dominated China's foldable phone market in the second quarter, accounting for a sizable 42% of the domestic market.
