Apple’s upcoming iPhone 17 Air may become the slimmest iPhone ever, according to newly leaked images and reports.

The iPhone 17 Air is expected to launch alongside the iPhone 17 lineup in Sept. and could replace the Plus model. However, it will not be a direct replacement, instead focusing on a thinner and lighter design.
Leaked hands-on images shared by leaker Majin Bu show a dummy unit of the iPhone 17 Air with a matte finish and a single rear camera. The camera is housed in a slightly raised bump, reminiscent of the Google Nexus 6P.
The design appears consistent with the iPhone 16 series, featuring volume rockers and an Action Button on the left side, and a Camera Control button on the right.
The iPhone 17 Air is rumoured to measure just 5.44mm thick, making it thinner than most smartphones on the market. For comparison, Apple’s thinnest current device, the M4 iPad Pro, measures 5.1mm, while the Tecno Spark Slim concept phone is 5.75mm thick.
If accurate, the iPhone 17 Air could become the world’s thinnest phone.
The device is expected to feature a 6.6-inch OLED display with ProMotion and ultra-slim bezels. However, it may not include the anti-reflective Ceramic Shield material rumoured for the iPhone 17 Pro models.
Apple reportedly considered a larger screen size similar to the iPhone 16 Pro Max but abandoned the idea due to concerns about structural integrity in such a thin device.
The iPhone 17 Air will likely include a single rear camera and a 24MP front camera, an upgrade from the 12MP sensor in the iPhone 16 series. The pill-shaped notch design is expected to remain unchanged from the iPhone 16.
To achieve its ultra-thin profile, the iPhone 17 Air may compromise on camera optics and battery capacity, according to reports from Bloomberg and analyst Kuo.
Internally, the device is expected to run on either the A18 or A19 chipset, include 8GB of RAM, and feature Apple’s in-house C1 modem, which debuted with the iPhone 16e.
The iPhone 17 Air will also run iOS 19, which is expected to introduce new customisation options for icons, menus, apps, and system controls. Apple is reportedly aiming to simplify navigation and incorporate design elements from the Vision Pro operating system.
The iPhone 17 Air is expected to be priced around USD 900, placing it between the base iPhone 17 and the iPhone 17 Pro in Apple’s product lineup.
The full iPhone 17 series, including the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Air, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max, is anticipated to launch in Sept.
