Kawasaki Heavy Industries has introduced a hydrogen-powered, four-legged robot named CORLEO, designed to carry riders across rugged terrain.

Unveiled at a preview event for the Osaka-Kansai Expo 2025, CORLEO is inspired by wolves and agile animals like deer and panthers. The robot is intended as a futuristic alternative to off-road motorcycles, offering stability and manoeuvrability for navigating mountainous areas.
Riders mount CORLEO like a horse, but instead of traditional controls, the robot responds to shifts in the rider’s body weight. A heads-up display provides real-time data on hydrogen levels, navigation, and weight distribution.
CORLEO is powered by a hydrogen fuel cell and a 150cc engine. Its four robotic legs operate independently and are supported by integrated AI systems that enhance balance and navigation.
Kawasaki has not released technical specifications such as speed, range, or battery life, as CORLEO remains a conceptual prototype. The company aims to launch the robot within the next 25 years.
The robot’s design reportedly draws inspiration from video games, including PlayStation’s Horizon Zero Dawn. Kawasaki envisions CORLEO as a next-generation mobility solution that could eventually replace traditional off-road motorcycles.
The company previously showcased its hydrogen-powered Ninja H2 HySE motorbike at Japan’s Suzuka Circuit, reinforcing its commitment to alternative fuel technologies and carbon neutrality.
Kawasaki is also expanding its robotics portfolio beyond mobility. It is developing the CL series of Industrial Collaborative Robots, built to withstand extreme conditions and perform tasks such as welding and palletising.
In the education sector, Kawasaki has launched Astorino, a robot designed to teach robotics and manufacturing skills in classrooms. Astorino provides students with hands-on experience to complement theoretical learning.
Since establishing its robotics division in 1989, Kawasaki has become a global leader in industrial automation. The company continues to explore partnerships and applications, including a collaboration with AMT Precision Parts and Olis Robotics to develop advanced remote monitoring and control systems.
