Lenovo To Enhance The Working From Home Experience This CES 2021
Updated: Aug 20, 2021
2020 has been a real eye-opener. In a sudden turn of events, many of us were forced to work from home and our daily mundane tasks like meetings, conferences, collaborations or even a simple meal with friends have all turned digital. Everyone now requires a computing device that not only performs great, but also offers quality of life features such as a good webcam, a clear microphone, great battery life and more.
This upcoming CES 2021, Lenovo is set to take that a step further to make the work from home experience even better.
Lenovo IdeaPad 5G
With up to 20 hours of battery life of continuous video playback and lightning-fast 5G speeds, the IdeaPad 5G is certainly packing quite a lot, and you get that all in a thin and light fan-less chassis.
Powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8cs 5G SoC which incorporates Qualcomm Adreno 680 graphics and Qualcomm Snapdragon X55 Modem-RF system, this nifty laptop will allow you to download large files faster than ever before, and rest assured that you won’t lose a frame in your video feed, especially during those really important meetings that you might have. The display is also fantastic, hitting all the right spots, with a 14-inch (1920 x 1080) IPS panel which covers 100% sRGB and can get up to 300 nits in brightness. You’ll also get useful features such as facial recognition with Windows Hello and with it weighing just about 1.2kg (2.6 lbs), it is pretty light to carry around.
Also available is the 14-inch Lenovo IdeaPad 4G/LTE. Both models can be equipped with up to 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 512GB of PCIe SSD storage.
The IdeaPad 5G is expected to be available in select markets. Pricing will be known at a later date.
Lenovo IdeaPad 5i Pro & IdeaPad 5 Pro
Lenovo’s most powerful IdeaPad laptops yet… and their first IdeaPad laptop to offer a 16:10 aspect ratio for the display. Things are looking interesting!
As the name suggests, the IdeaPad 5i Pro will be equipped with up to the latest 11th-Gen Intel Core i7 processors while the IdeaPad 5 Pro will come with the next-gen AMD Ryzen Mobile Processors (coming soon). Both models will be available in 14-inch or 16-inch and feature an all-metal chassis in either Cloud Grey or Storm Grey for the colour.
For the 14-inch model with either Intel or AMD offerings, you can also opt for the NVIDIA MX450 for graphics, get up to a 14-inch 2.8K (16:10) IPS display with a 90Hz refresh rate and up to 400 nits of brightness, up to 16GB of DDR4 RAM and 1TB of M.2 PCIe SSD storage along with a 56.5WHr battery with support for Rapid Charge Boost.
For the 16-inch model, also with either Intel or AMD offerings, you can opt for the NVIDIA MX460 for graphics, up to 16GB of DDR4 RAM and 1TB of M.2 PCIe SSD storage and a 75WHr battery with support for Rapid Charge Boost. As you can tell, it’s pretty much the same. The main difference would be the display. For the 16-inch models, you can get up to a 16-inch 2.5K (16:10) IPS display with a 120Hz refresh rate and up to 350 nits in brightness.
Whichever model you might be interested in, you can expect a weight of about 1.45kg for the 14-inch model, and roughly 2kg for the larger 16-inch model. All variants will enjoy a larger trackpad over previous generations, an IR camera that will provide features such as facial recognition via Windows Hello and even a attention-sensing software from Glance by Mirametrix which makes use of the time-of-flight (ToF) sensors and can do things such as pausing your video when you walk away to grab a cup of coffee. Lenovo even claims that the laptop will call out with an alarm if it’s moved when your back is turned…? Talk about utmost security!
The 14-inch IdeaPad 5i Pro and 5 Pro will not be available in North America at this time but is expected to be available in EMEA in March 2021 and will start at €699.00 and €799.00 respectively.
