5 New Xiaomi Devices To Look Out For

Xiaomi just recently announced a whole bunch of smart devices they’re adding to their Internet of Things (IoT) lineup, and here are five most exciting ones to keep an eye on.

We previously reviewed Xiaomi’s Mi Band 4, which was pretty impressive for its low price, and now, we’re getting the Xiaomi Smart Band 5. With a new 1.1-inch AMOLED screen, colours are once again supported, meaning you get vibrant, engaging information on your steps or other notifications.

There are also 11 activity modes to track a wider range of exercise, as well as 24-hour sleep tracking, stress detection and even a menstrual cycle tracker. But something that’s really a big quality-of-life upgrade is that there’s no longer a need to pop out the smart band module from the strap to charge, since the new charger snaps onto the back of the sensor.

Xiaomi also revealed their Mi True Wireless Earphones 2 Basic, and while the name doesn’t inspire a lot of confidence, there are plenty of features here that are anything but basic.

First off is the fact that the earbuds have active noise cancellation. While it remains to be seen how effective it is (due to the half-open design), having ANC will definitely help, even if it’s just a bit. The earbuds also connect independently instead of running on a master/slave design, so that’s good news for people who prefer to be able to listen in to their environments.

There’s also automatic in-ear detection, and Xiaomi phone users will enjoy easy pairing, similar to how AirPods pair easily with Apple devices. With a total battery life of 20 hours, it’s not the best, but it certainly should last for around a week with normal listening patterns.

There were also electric scooters announced during the event, with the Mi Electric Scooter Pro 2 featuring a long-range battery that is claimed to be able to power the scooter for up to 45km on a single charge, a dual-braking system and a quick-folding design that allows people to bring the 14.2kg scooter around easily.

Xiaomi’s Mi TV Stick is definitely something to keep an eye out for. With Xiaomi being known to compete on affordable pricing, this might be an excellent competitor to other Chromecast sticks out there.

Packing in 1GB of RAM and 8GB of storage, users will be able to stream content in 1080p once plugged into a TV or monitor. Google Assistant, Chromecast and Android TV are all built-in, so no lack of functionality there.

If there’s a good sound system, the Mi TV Stick can even take advantage of that since there’s support for both Dolby and DTS surround sound.

Xiaomi also announced their Mi Curved Gaming Monitor 34″, a 1440p behemoth that boasts a 21:9 aspect ratio for the 34-inch display, 144Hz refresh rate, AMD FreeSync and a 121% sRGB wide colour gamut.

This means vivid colours, the ability to multitask with more on the screen, a more responsive experience when gaming and most likely, great picture quality.
