Offset Bills Using Your Mobile Plan’s Unused Data With SG’s New Telco, Gorilla Mobile

There’s a new player in the virtual telco scene. Gorilla Mobile is Singapore’s newest virtual telco, or MVNO, and it’s offering something that’s quite unique.

While the telco advertises itself as meant for PMETs and SMEs, there is both an individual signup as well as business signup, with the latter meant for registered businesses and the likes.

The telco’s main plan is Switch25, coming in at just S$25 a month while offering features like free international IDD calls, travel roaming, 20GB of data and more. At launch, there will only be 20GB of data, 100 minutes of talktime and 100 minutes of free SMSes. Roaming data, digital IDD and more will be rolling out later in 2021.

The main selling point, though, is the SwitchBack feature. Powered by blockchain technology, unused mobile data is converted into Go Tokens at the end of every 30-day billing cycle. These tokens can be used to offset future bills, shared with coworkers for additional data or used to purchase additional allowances for features like roaming data, additional talktime, SMSes and more.

The telco has an app for users to access the SwitchBack feature and through this app, even non-Gorilla Mobile users will be able to receive and use Go Tokens for features like IDD calls in the app, regardless of whether they have a Gorilla Mobile SIM card or not.

As Gorilla Mobile is a virtual telco, they will be using M1’s existing infrastructure for network coverage.

To further entice signups, the telco has a pre-launch #Rethink promotion where users can upload existing telco bills to view the price difference if they were to switch to Gorilla Mobile, port in their numbers and receive up to S$50 of the price difference either in vouchers or their PayNow accounts. Each customer is limited to five port-ins, and if the bill difference is less than S$25, there will be a flat Bill Difference Reward of S$10. This Bill Difference Reward is only valid for customers porting in numbers from existing telcos.

The promotion is valid from 18 June to 18 August 2021, and registrations for Gorilla Mobile will also open on 18 June 2021.
