Samsung’s New A52 5G & A32 5G Phones Boast 5G, 120Hz Refresh Rate & More

We reviewed the Samsung A31 previously and thought it was a decent offering for a midrange phone around S$300, but now, Samsung has unveiled the new additions to the A series midrange phones that seem like a pretty big upgrade. Only two models will be coming to Singapore though, the A52 5G and A32 5G.

For starters, the A52 5G has at least 6GB of RAM, which is pretty much the bare minimum required these days to make sure a phone runs smoothly when multiple apps are open. Here in Singapore though, we only get the 8GB variant, which is nice. The A32 5G comes with either 4GB or 8GB of RAM, and we would highly recommend topping up the extra money (S$80) for the 8GB variant.

Storage configurations come in at either 128GB or 256GB for the A52 5G, which is pretty standard. The A32 5G only comes with 128GB, but that’s expected. What’s really surprising though, is the inclusion of a MicroSD card slot that supports up to 1TB. Flagship phones have been removing this feature for a while now, so it’s definitely nice that Samsung has included this in their new midrange phones.

Both models come with a quad-camera array, with the lenses almost exactly similar across the models. For the A52 5G, there’s the 12MP ultra-wide lens, 64MP main lens with optical image stabilisation (OIS), 5MP depth lens and 5MP macro lenses.

The A32 5G on the other hand, has the same 12MP ultra-wide lens, and 5MP macro lens, but the depth lens has been downgraded to just 2MP while the main lens is a 48MP one that’s similar to the old A31.

Samsung didn’t reveal which processor they’re using, but both the A52 5G and A32 5G are using octa-core chips.

The A52 5G and A32 5G both come with 6.5-inch screens, although the A52 5G’s screen is Super AMOLED and supports up to 120Hz refresh rate while the A32 5G model only goes up to 60Hz and is an LCD display.

The A52 5G has IP67 water & dust resistance, so even if you accidentally spill water all over the phone, it’ll be just fine. Avoid doing that with the A32 5G though, since it doesn’t have any rating for water or dust protection.

The A52 5G comes with a 4,500mAh battery while the A32 5G comes with a larger one for some reason, at 5,000mAh. That being said, the A32 5G only supports 15W fast charging while the A52 5G supports up to 25W fast charging.

More than just that though, Samsung is including some cool features with these phones, including the ability to stream music or content from one phone to two pairs of Galaxy Buds Pro earbuds so users can share what they’re listening to with a friend.

The Samsung Galaxy A52 5G will start from S$548 for the 8GB/128GB version and go up to S$648 for the 8GB/256GB model. Both models will be available from 27 March 2021 onwards.

The Galaxy A32 5G phone will start from S$348 for the 4GB/128GB model and the 8GB/128GB model will cost S$428. The A32 5G phones will be available from 2 April 2021 onwards.
