Singtel & ViewQwest Are the Fastest Internet Providers in SG

Ookla, the developer of the widely popular speedtest.net, named Singtel and ViewQwest as the fastest mobile operator in Singapore and fastest fixed broadband provider of the last half of 2020 respectively in their Speedtest Global Index report.

The Global Index Report utilised Ookla’s Speedtest Intelligence to rank Singapore’s various Internet Service Providers (ISP) by fastest and best performing in mobile and fixed broadband.

According to Speedtest Intelligence, during the latter half of 2020, Singtel was the fastest mobile operator as it achieved a Speed Score of 68.04, followed by StarHub at 64.71, M1 at 34.38, and TPG Telecom at 28.54.

Speedtest Intelligence’s Speed Score takes into account an ISP’s download and upload speed and then uses a modified trimean to find the median. The median is used for the measurement as it is what customers experience on a day-to-day basis.

They also found that Singtel consistently performed well with 94.7% of results showed that Singtel achieved at least a 5 Mbps minimum download speed and 1Mbps minimum upload speed.

Speedtest Intelligence also found Singtel to be the best performing mobile operator on a 5G-only connection test with a 127.07 5G Speed Score.

However, Singtel did not place first when it came to latency in mobile devices. TPG Telecom had the lowest Mean Latency at 20ms while Singtel sat at 22ms and was placed fourth accordingly.

ViewQwest, meanwhile, was dubbed as the fastest fixed broadband provider with a Speed Score of 232.63. They are followed by MyRepublic at 219.94, Singtel at 199.42, Starhub at 177.51, and then M1 at 165.80.

ViewQwest was also reported to have placed first on both Speedtest Intelligence’s Consistency Score and Latency Score at 91.8% and 6ms respectively.

The Speedtest Global Index report also included internet speeds in phones and manufacturers.

Speedtest Intelligence hailed the iPhone 12 Pro Max 5G to have the fastest download and upload speeds while also having low mean latency.

The iPhone 12 Pro Max 5G was able to reach a download speed of 101.92 Mbps and a 21.25 Mbps upload speed. It also has a mean latency of 18ms.

The iPhone 12 Pro Max 5G is followed by the iPhone 12 Pro 5G, Huawei P40 Pro 5G, iPhone 12 5G and the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra 5G by mean download.

Speedtest Intelligence labelled Apple to be the best performing cell phone manufacturer in terms of internet speeds while Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X55 5G snagged first place as the fastest chipset in Singapore.

According to Ookla’s Speedtest Intelligence website, Speedtest Intelligence is designed to give “timely global performance metrics” for companies and organisations who want to better understand the speed and quality of available networks.
