The two companies have recently signed a memorandum of understanding in which EuroSports’ subsidiary, EuroSports Technologies Ltd., will develop and supply SMRT Road Holdings’ Strides Corporation with smart electric vehicles (EV). Strides Corporation, meanwhile, will be the sole distributor of EuroSports’ smart electric vehicles.

Both companies expect to develop and supply a smart electric motorcycle ecosystem (SEME) in Singapore. The SEME will consist of the development of two-wheel and three-wheel EVs, wherein these vehicles will be equipped with smart riding features and supporting systems such as in-house charging stations.

The partnership between the two companies was cemented to capitalise on the global acceleration of electric vehicle adoption. This is especially so in Singapore, where the government is cracking down on emissions and prioritising the improvement of charging infrastructure for EVs and innovative battery technologies.

You may remember Singapore’s Land Transportation Authority announced on 5 March 2020 that by 1 April 2020, electric motorcycles that have power ratings of more than 10 kW have been given the go-ahead to be registered and ridden on roads.

SMRT Road Holdings’ president, Tan Kian Heong, mentioned that the collaboration between the two companies is part of SMRT Road Holdings’ plan to “build businesses in the electric vehicle ecosystem towards a greener Singapore and Southeast Asia region.”

Mr Melvin Goh, EuroSports’ Executive Chairman and CEO, agrees, stating that the partnership will “broaden the scope of our reach to tap the unfulfilled potential of regional EV markets.” Melvin Goh also added that he is proud to fly the company’s flag with Strides as the creator of Scorpio Electric, the first Singapore home-grown high performance smart electric motorcycle.
