The Sonos Roam Is the Brand’s Most Portable and Affordable Speaker Yet

Sonos has just announced their new portable speaker, the Sonos Roam.

Technically, the Sonos Roam isn’t the first “portable” speaker, with the Sonos Move taking that spot. But at 3kg, the Move wasn’t really portable at all, unless you just wanted a speaker that could be moved from room to room in your home. The Roam, though, is truly portable at just 0.43kg.

Similar to the Move, the Roam can operate over Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, and even comes with some cool features like the new Sonos Swap, where the user can hold down the play/pause button to send music playing to the nearest Sonos speaker or take over music from other speakers.

There’s also automatic TruePlay, which was introduced in the Move, which means the Roam will be listening to how frequencies bounce off the surroundings and will automatically tune the sound for optimal and balanced listening.

There’s a built-in battery that will provide up to 10 hours of listening time on a single charge, and you can even charge the speaker via Sonos’ own wireless charging pad (sold separately) or any wireless Qi chargers. Of course, if you’re not into wireless charging, there’s a USB-C port that can fully charge the speaker in around 1-2 hours.

There are microphones built-in so you can use Google Assistant, Amazon Alexa and other voice assistants with the speaker, and it’s also AirPlay 2 compatible.

The Sonos Roam comes with IP67 dust and water resistance, which is definitely an upgrade over the Move’s IP56 rating, so you can feel even more secure when using the Roam speaker around pools or even at the beach.

We’re definitely looking forward to trying out the Sonos Roam (S$299) when it’s available. The speaker can now be pre-ordered exclusively at Lazada, with global availability on 21 April 2021.
