Tech Round Up Week 2 May 2020: 5 Million Free Masks From Razer, iPhone 12 Leaks And More

If you’re a heavy Facebook user, you might already know, but the new desktop layout is now available. Previously, this new update was only available if one opted into it starting in March and it will be only exclusive to some markets. However, Facebook has announced that the newly redesigned desktop site will now be available globally.

An initiative for faster, easier use, the new layout is meant to give users’ eyes a break with the dark mode. Additionally, the new update also features a skinnier News Feed, ample empty space on the left and right rails, larger icons and a menu bar that lets you easily jump to various parts of the app.

Facebook also released a new section, Business Nearby, enabling users to discover the latest posts from businesses. Furthermore, Facebook also created a new Business Inbox in the Messenger App. This new section and feature allows users to find essential services and products efficiently, while at the same time helping businesses achieve more virtual traffic as they move online to stay open.

A new Support Small Business sticker on Instagram or #SupportSmallBusiness hashtag in Facebook is now available for use. Any posts using that sticker will automatically appear on Instagram’s new story highlight “Support Small”. Additionally, Facebook will also be posting COVID-19-related information, tools and tips for small businesses in both the Facebook and Instagram apps.

Razer, Singapore’s well known gaming peripherals company, will be giving out free surgical masks to Singaporeans aged 16 and above. This will be done via 20 mask vending machines that will be set up islandwide by June 1. An estimate of 5 million masks will be dispensed in efforts to help Singaporeans mask up and stay safe.

Users have to register for the mobile wallet app, Razer Pay, to verify their identity and redeem the masks. There will be a QR coupon that has to be scanned upon mask collection. Razer is also collaborating with Sunningdale Tech, a local manufacturer, to develop a fully automated mask production line in Singapore.

The latest iPhone 12 Max Leak by Jon Prosser at YouTube channel Front Page Tech included information such as the names of four variants of the upcoming iPhone 12, storage space, RAM and more. The leak says that the cheapest model is the iPhone 12 costing $649 USD, with 4GB of RAM, 128GB storage and it also features a 5.4-inch OLED Super Retina Display.

All handsets are supposed to have the new A14 chipset inside and each of them will be 5G-ready. Prosser’s leaks about the recent Macbook Pro 13 and iPhone SE were mostly accurate hence we certainly will have some expectations of this iPhone 12 leak.
