Tencent Sets Up First Internet Data Centre in Indonesia

Tencent recently expanded its presence in the Indonesian market for its cloud business, Tencent Cloud.

The Chinese tech giant recently announced the launch of its first Internet Data Centre (IDC) in Jakarta, Indonesia to further cater to the ever-growing business needs for cloud services in the country and the Asia Pacific (APAC) region.


The launch of the IDC in Indonesia enables Indonesian customers and users to experience a reduced number of access relays to data and applications. Business and organisations in the country will also be able to accelerate their digital transformation thanks to the reduced access relays. Additionally, the establishment of the new IDC means that customers will be able to meet regulatory and compliance requirements, ensuring that they can provide more disaster recovery options in the whole APAC region.


Tencent expects that the establishment of its new IDC in the country will support a wide range of industries, from financial services to gaming and education.


Bank Neo Commerce, one of Indonesia’s progressive digital banks, was the first recipient of a fully operational Tencent Distributed Database (TDSQL) outside of China. This database is expected to boost Indonesia’s internet architecture for its financial services industry.

Tencent Cloud has also supported JOOX, Asia’s most dedicated music and entertainment streaming platform, on a range of entertainment offerings such as music streaming and karaoke singing. Tencent’s cloud business has also allowed JOOX to broadcast many global music events live on its platform.


Lesley Simpson, WeTV Indonesia’s Country Manager, mentioned that WeTV’s commitment to creating a “comfortable viewing experience for every user” made them inseparable from the support Tencent Cloud provides.


Tencent Cloud International’s Senior Vice President, Poshu Yeung, said that they are proud of how the new IDC in Indonesia shows their commitment to addressing current and future business needs in Indonesia and Asia “while strengthening our global network which now connects 27 regions and 61 availability zones.”


To prove its high-level security and safety standards, Tencent Cloud’s IDC in Indonesia strived to acquire certifications to prove just that. These certifications are the Uptime Institute Tier III – Design & Facility, PCI DSS, ISO 27001, ISO 14001 and SNI (local standard).
