OpenAI Enhances ChatGPT With Personalised Shopping Search Features

OpenAI has upgraded ChatGPT’s web search capabilities to offer personalised shopping recommendations, including images, reviews, and direct purchase links.

The update, announced Monday, is available through GPT-4o, the default AI model, and is accessible to all ChatGPT users globally. This includes users on the Pro, Plus, and Free tiers, as well as those using the platform without logging in.
Users can now receive tailored product suggestions across categories such as fashion, beauty, home goods, and electronics by asking specific questions.
OpenAI stated that the shopping results will not include advertisements, and the company will not earn commissions from purchases made through the platform.
The recommendations are independently generated using structured metadata from third-party sources, including pricing, product descriptions, and reviews.
The update comes as OpenAI aims to challenge Alphabet’s dominance in online search by offering a more user-focused experience, in contrast to Google’s ad-driven results.
OpenAI reported that ChatGPT’s search feature has become one of its most popular tools, with over 1 billion web searches in the past week.
In February, the company said its weekly active users surpassed 400 million.
