The Competitive, All-Rounder Option From Oppo!
Updated: Dec 18, 2023
Oppo's Reno series has transformed over the years, moving from mid-range to premium, with the Reno 10 Pro+ as its latest flagship offering. At just above S$1,000, this device aims to address the criticisms of its predecessors while introducing new enhancements.
The smartphone market has become increasingly competitive, and Oppo hopes that the Reno 10 Pro+ will stand out as a genuine all-rounder in design, performance, camera capabilities and more.
Design
Oppo has a history of innovative designs, with phones like the Find X showcasing their creative prowess. However, the Reno 10 Pro+ adopts a more refined and polished design language, emphasising elegance and comfort. The device is available in two finishes, Glossy Purple and Silvery Grey. The latter variant features a smooth matte-finished rear panel, in contrast to the glossy finish of the purple variant.
The phone's build quality feels premium, with rounded corners, curved sides, and a curved-edge display. The use of AGC's Dragontrail Star 2 cover glass for the display and Corning Gorilla Glass 5 for the rear panel enhances durability, although it is quite a scratch magnet as well. The sandwiched polycarbonate frame contributes to the lightweight feel of the device, weighing in at 194g.
While the design is sleek and attractive, some concerns arise. The phone's slippery back panel and the slight imbalance caused by the protruding camera module may create usability challenges. Additionally, it lacks an official IP rating for water and dust resistance, which has become common even in mid-range devices. Nevertheless, Oppo provides a grippy silicone case for that much-needed protection.
Display & Audio
The Oppo Reno 10 Pro+ boasts a 6.74-inch OLED display with a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate. The display is vibrant, crisp, and HDR10-certified, ensuring a certain standard of visual quality. The phone's colour accuracy and ability to reproduce 1 billion colours also contribute to an overall immersive viewing experience. However, outdoor visibility under direct sunlight may be a minor issue for some, with a maximum brightness of 1100 nits.
Audio-wise, the device offers a standard experience with no notable advantages over similar devices. It supports the latest Bluetooth standards, ensuring seamless connectivity to various audio devices. The provided speaker grille delivers decent sound quality, but enthusiasts might prefer external audio accessories for a more immersive experience.
Performance
The Reno 10 Pro+ 5G is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset, offering a smooth and efficient performance. This chipset is built on a 4nm process, which improves power efficiency and overall speed compared to its predecessor. The device's 12GB of RAM further supports multitasking without significant slowdowns.

Gaming performance is notable, with the device handling titles like Diablo Immortals smoothly at medium graphics settings. Despite the advanced liquid cooling system, prolonged gaming sessions may lead to slight heating. ColorOS 13, based on Android 13, also provides customisation options, including haptic feedback fine-tuning and multitasking features. However, the presence of bloatware and ColorOS's interface could use some improvements for a cleaner user experience.
Camera
The camera setup is one of the Oppo Reno 10 Pro+ highlights. The device features a 50MP primary camera, a 64MP telephoto portrait lens with OIS, and a 112-degree ultrawide lens. The camera system certainly delivers, capturing intricate details, vibrant colours and accurate skin tones. Daylight shots exhibit good dynamic range, while low-light performance remains competitive.
The telephoto lens offers up to 3x optical zoom with stunning image quality. It captures portraits with precision and impressive background blur. However, some discrepancies exist between 3x zoom shots from the primary camera and the telephoto lens. Selfies also excel, featuring natural skin tones and details in various lighting conditions.
Battery Life & Charging
Despite its 4700mAh battery capacity, the Oppo Reno 10 Pro+ provides impressive battery life, easily lasting a day with moderate usage. The device's efficient power management and the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1's optimisations contribute to this longevity. Moreover, the 100W SuperVOOC charging technology is also a notable feature, fully charging the device in 30 minutes.
Pricing & Availability
Priced at S$1,149, the Oppo Reno 10 Pro+ enters the competitive flagship smartphone segment. While this price tag might seem steep, the device's camera capabilities, efficient performance and rapid charging technology could justify many users' expenses. However, similarly priced alternatives, such as the OnePlus, Xiaomi and even Nothing, may raise questions about the Reno 10 Pro+'s competitiveness.
While there are minor concerns, such as bloatware and outdoor visibility, the overall experience is positive. Whether the Reno 10 Pro+ can stand out amidst fierce competition depends on user preferences and priorities. Oppo's flagship offering seeks to carve out its place as a genuine all-rounder in the premium segment as the smartphone market continues to evolve.
