Master & Dynamic MW07 Plus Review: A Major Improvement In Most Aspects

Updated: Aug 19, 2021

We reviewed the Master & Dynamic MW07 back in September 2019, and the second generation of those, the MW07 Plus, arrived shortly after. With the improvements made, I daresay the MW07 Plus has become one of the best true wireless earbuds on the market right now.

Design-wise, it looks almost exactly the same as the original MW07. Coming in six design options (Steel Blue, White Marble, Tortoiseshell, Black Quartz, Jade Green and Black Pearl), there’s something for everyone.

I’m mighty pleased that M&D has kept the silicon Fit Wings sleeve that helps the buds stay securely in the ear. They really are one of the most secure fitting true wireless earbuds around that aren’t explicitly exercise-oriented or have an over-ear hook.

There’s a physical volume rocker on the left, with a long press on volume up activating Ambient Mode which turns on the microphones and pipes in surrounding noise, while a long press on volume down switches noise cancelling on and off.

The multifunction button on the right side activates voice assistant, skips songs, allows you to pair to other devices when the buds are out of the ear and more.

You’ll get a stainless steel case similar to the one from the MW07, which is still a fingerprint and scratch magnet, but it looks really premium and feels solid in the hand. The strength of the magnets inside also seems to have been improved, with the buds staying put inside even when the case is flipped upside down and shaken slightly with the lid open.

One of the big additions is active noise cancellation, and while it’s not as effective as Sony’s WF-1000XM3 or the Apple AirPods Pro, it still helps to reduce external noise in addition to the passive seal that you’ll get. There’s not a big hit to the sound quality either when ANC is turned on, so that’s a bonus.

Sound-wise, it’s still the same excellent quality retained from the MW07 with good bass and an overall balanced sound. I do think that the treble has been tuned slightly to sound a bit more prominent now, but it’s nothing bad.

The earbuds are now running on Bluetooth 5.0 and connection is solid, with pretty much no dropouts unless you’re in a location with a lot of interference. Audiophiles will be happy to know that these also support the aptX codec, although I’d be even happier if it supported aptX HD. There’s also IPX5 water resistance so you can work out with these without worrying about sweat damaging them.

My biggest quibble about the MW07 was the short battery life. Thankfully, M&D have corrected that with 10 hours in the earbuds now, and an additional 30 hours in the case for 40 hours total. It’s finally on par with other true wireless earbuds and that definitely helps make a case as to why you should get these. The earbuds stay the same at 9g each, with the charging case 8g heavier to accommodate the added battery life.

Overall, I think the upgrades made to the MW07 Plus make it a definite contender. I would have been hardpressed to recommend the MW07 to anybody because the only major selling point back then was the design and sound quality. But now, there are new features and better battery life while retaining that great sound. Master & Dynamic have definitely listened to feedback.
