Samsung Announces Date for 2023's First Galaxy Unpacked

Samsung, as it does every year, is getting the ball rolling early, revealing the date for its first Galaxy Unpacked event of 2023.

The South Korean tech giant announced it's hosting the annual launch event on 1 February. And for the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic, it would be an in-person presentation that's taking place at the Masonic Auditorium in San Francisco, California. The company is also livestreaming the event on its website.

"A new era of Galaxy innovation is coming. Our innovations are designed to enable incredible possibilities for people today and beyond. The new Galaxy S series will be the epitome of how we define the ultimate premium experience. We’re raising the bar and setting new standards for what’s epic," reads Samsung's invite.

While Samsung didn't mention what it plans to announce yet, it has all but confirmed that it'll be the new flagship Galaxy S23 line. Historically, the electronics maker has launched its newest S-line smartphones in the first couple of months of the year, and it looks to be the same in 2023.

Samsung is also offering store credit for those who place reservations for the yet-to-be-announced devices ahead early. You can snag a US$50 discount on your purchase if you proceed with your preorder for one device or US$100 for two devices.

The Galaxy S23, according to leaked information, consists of three models: the Galaxy S23, the Galaxy S23+ and the Galaxy S23 Ultra. All three are expected to boast some noteworthy camera upgrades, chief of which is the 200MP sensor of the Ultra model. In comparison, last year's S22 Ultra came with a 108MP sensor.

There has also been speculation that Samsung could drop the Exynos chips altogether in favour of Qualcomm's Snapdragon Gen 2. The company has over the years used both Exynos and Qualcomm chips for its previous flagship releases.
