Update 11/7/2019: There has been a leak of some official-looking press images of the Note 10+, as seen below, with the phone sporting a quad-camera setup with one camera being a ToF sensor.

It’s getting close to that time of year again; Samsung is due to launch their new device (possibly devices, with a Pro model being rumoured) in the Note series in August, and Huawei will presumably be following it up with the new Mate 30 and Mate 30 Pro in October. Leaks have been rife on the Internet, so we’ve collated some of the most important ones you should see.

1. Screen

It’s a race to see who can claim the title of being the first phone to have a screen-to-body ratio that’s closest to 100%; other phone brands like OPPO have come up with pop-up selfie cameras and even underscreen camera technology.

The Note 10 and Mate 30 models seem to still be keeping at least a hole in their displays for the front cameras.

The Note 10 leaks (above) indicate that Samsung will be ditching the top bezel in favour of a hole in display for the front camera, while thinning out the top and bottom bezels.

Leaks for the Mate 30 on the other hand are indicating a notch for the phone, although the only photo we have is an obscured photo of screen protectors that have the top cutouts blurred.

2. Camera

The cases that have been produced for the Note 10 are showing a vertical camera stack, with two different cutout sizes presumably for the Pro and non-pro models. It’s rumoured that the standard version will come with a triple camera setup and the Pro model will have a quad camera setup with the extra camera being a ToF depth-sensing lens.

This is possibly one of the more divisive rumours for the Mate 30 and Mate 30 pro. There are currently two camps of thought; whether it’ll be a unique circular camera or a rectangular camera box.

There are cases with a circular and rectangular cutouts, so I guess we’ll have to wait a few more months for something more concrete. It’s widely agreed that it’ll be a quad-camera setup though, so based on design I’m definitely leaning towards the circular camera layout!

3. General specs

Most of the rumours have been focusing on the screen and cameras, but there are a few rumours abound about the performance of the phones.

The Note 10 appears to have lost the 3.5mm headphone jack, and will come in a 6.3 inch model for the standard variant and a 6.75 or 6.8 inch model for the Pro.

It’s rumoured that the Mate 30 might come with Huawei’s new Kirin 985 chip and HongMeng OS. The usage of the 985 chip is a little disappointing since it’ll be just a slight upgrade over the current Kirin 980 chip. Hopefully Huawei surprises us by including the new 990 chip instead.
