Temu Set to Expand into South Korean Market and Develop Logistics Infrastructure
Chinese e-commerce powerhouse PDD's cross-border platform, Temu, is gearing up to make its mark in the South Korean market, as per a report by Yonhap News Agency. Since late last year, Temu has been actively recruiting South Korean professionals for pivotal roles in human resources, general affairs, marketing, and logistics. The company is also laying the groundwork to establish an integrated logistics system within South Korea, with plans to engage major local logistics companies through public tenders.

In a bid to enhance its presence in South Korea, Temu launched a dedicated South Korean website in July 2023, focusing on international shopping. Moreover, in February 2023, the company set up a South Korean subsidiary named Whaleco Korea LLC. Analysts in the industry suggest that Temu's recent initiatives closely resemble the market approach adopted by another Chinese e-commerce giant, AliExpress, in South Korea. These strategic moves are viewed as a proactive step towards localisation and readiness for a direct market entry.
In a significant development, Yonhap reported in December 2024 that Temu had emerged as the most downloaded app among South Korean adults in the initial 11 months of the year. This surge in popularity underscores the growing interest and potential for Temu's offerings in the South Korean market.
