Samsung has just unveiled its 2021 business and industrial line-up with a new tablet and mobile device that can now be used with gloves on.
The Galaxy Tab Active3 and Galaxy XCover Pro are part of the company’s “Samsung for Business” portfolio, designed specifically to be used by medical workers during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Sarah Chua, Samsung Singapore’s Vice President of IT and Mobile, said that Samsung incorporated new features based on user feedback to “benefit their everyday operations.”
The Galaxy Tab Active3 and the Galaxy XCover Pro also double up as barcode scanners. The devices will be able to support Samsung’s Knox Capture, a new enterprise-grade scanning solution.
Samsung developed the Knox Capture with Scandit, a company that creates software for fast barcode scanning.
Knox Capture turns the devices’ camera into a barcode scanner with no additional accessories and add-ons required.

The Galaxy Tab Active3 is a multi-functional tablet that supports the latest applications for fieldwork.
It also has a “No Battery” mode, a perfect solution for those who need the tablet fixed in a kiosk or mounted on vehicles.
Touch Sensitivity is another feature that allows users to continue using the tablet even while wearing standard thin work gloves. This means users are protected while using the tablet, adding an extra layer of sanitation, especially in medical settings.
The Galaxy Tab Active3 has a replaceable 5050mAh battery that supports fast charging through USB and POGO pins.
Dual-screen functionality on the tablet allows users to pick-up tasks where they left off, anywhere whether it be in the office or the field.

The Galaxy Tab Active3 also features a 13MP rear camera for both taking pictures or scanning documents and a 5MP camera for video or conference calls. It is also fitted with Google’s ARCore which enables augmented reality services like remote training.
The device is optimised for camera-based barcode scanning to help retailers manage inventory and scan products for purchase.
The Galaxy Tab Active3 was also awarded IP68 certifications. This means the Galaxy Tab Active3 can survive submerged in fresh water up to 1.5 metres for up to 30 minutes.
The work table is built tough and complies with US Military standard durability. The tablet can be dropped uncovered at a height of up to 1.2 metres, and even higher when it is covered in its protective case.
The Galaxy Tab Active3 is priced at S$698 for the Wi-Fi version and S$798 for the LTE model.

Samsung Galaxy XCover Pro is a new device designed for those who are working in harsher environments.
Vice President Sarah Chua said the Galaxy XCover Pro is perfect for field workers in the logistics and supply chain sectors.
The Galaxy XCover Pro is easily customisable. The device can be tailored to suit specific needs. It comes with two, programmable physical keys to create custom actions with a single click or tap. This feature promises to make users’ workflow simpler by removing the need to swipe through apps and scrolling through menus.
The smart device can be transformed from a mobile device scanner to a walkie-talkie seamlessly.
Samsung has partnered with Microsoft to bring the push-to-talk feature on the Galaxy XCover Pro – transforming the phone into a walkie-talkie with just a button push.
Like the Galaxy Tab Active3, the Galaxy XCover Pro has a Glove Mode that allows users to wear gloves while using the device when activated. The Galaxy XCover Pro comes with a replaceable 4,050mAh battery that can hold more than a day’s worth of charge. The battery also supports POGO pin charging and is compatible with third-party charging docks.

The Galaxy XCover Pro is built to withstand extreme environmental conditions.
It was also awarded IP68 certification which means it can withstand a 1.5-metre drop even without a case. That is the average height a person would accidentally drop a device in normal usage.
Samsung has also worked with other software and hardware solutions from KOAMTAC and Scandit to enable the Galaxy XCover Pro’s users to conduct inventory tracking with barcode scanning.
The Galaxy XCover Pro will be available in March 2021.
