US Considers Ban on Chinese AI Chatbot DeepSeek From Government Devices
The US government is considering banning the Chinese AI chatbot DeepSeek from government devices due to national security concerns, a source familiar with the matter said on Friday.

Officials are concerned about how DeepSeek handles user data, which the company stores on servers in China, according to the Wall Street Journal. The administration is also discussing banning the chatbot from app stores and restricting US-based cloud service providers from offering DeepSeek’s AI models to customers. These discussions are still in the early stages.
DeepSeek’s low-cost AI models caused a major sell-off in global equity markets in January, as investors feared its impact on existing AI market leaders.
A group of 21 state attorneys general urged Congress on Thursday to pass legislation that would prohibit government devices from downloading and using DeepSeek’s AI software.
