Volkswagen Commences Operations at First Wholly Owned Battery Pack Plant in China

Volkswagen has officially started operating its first fully owned battery pack production plant in Hefei City, the capital of China's Anhui province.

The local government of Hefei confirmed the news, stating that Volkswagen Anhui will also begin mass-producing pure electric models based on the MEB platform by the end of 2023. The total investment in the battery pack plant amounts to 1.5 billion yuan ($208.01 million).


This move by Volkswagen signifies its commitment to expanding its presence in the electric vehicle (EV) market in China, which is the world's largest EV market.


By establishing a wholly owned battery pack plant, Volkswagen aims to enhance its production capabilities and meet the growing demand for electric vehicles in the region.
